Getting Married in Marbella
I am used to dealing with happy, excited couples surrounded by their loved ones, but Rachel and Peter stole the show recently with a truly inspiring wedding held at the Don Carlos under the Marbella sun. The beautiful bride and her handsome groom were celebrating here a very special connection that had begun in England’s northeast and I was fortunate, as always, to capture their happiness.
“Peter and I met over six years ago when I was a student in his hometown of Newcastle. We very quickly knew it was serious and moved in together shortly afterwards. Peter proposed on Christmas Eve 2012 and we definitely don’t do things by half as we very quickly after got our planning permission through for a house build that had been a long time in the planning. What then commenced was 18 months of me being obsessed with the wedding and Peter being obsessed with architectural plans, biomass boilers, solar panels and paint colours!
“Why did we pick Spain? My parents had a second home in Elviria, and when I was around 13 I remember seeing a wedding being set up at the Don Carlos and saying ‘When I grow up I can see myself getting married in Marbella’. We therefore flew out to Spain and had a meeting at the hotel. I didn’t feel the need to look anywhere else as it ticked every box. I met up with Rose Marie at Romance Bodas who does wedding planning in the area and works closely with the Don Carlos. I had done a lot of research and had found David’s website when looking at ‘real weddings’ in the area. It was clear he had been used a lot by other brides so I decided to meet up with him after Rose confirmed he came highly recommended.
“After one meeting with David it was clear he was going to be perfect for our wedding. Not only did I love his pictures, he was so relaxed and nothing was an issue. Peter and my parents all loved him immediately. Months were spent planning, choosing and obsessing about everything wedding related and then suddenly it was here and Peter and I, together with our families and 122 of our closest friends, all flew out to Spain. The partying began on the Friday evening with a drinks reception at the hotel. It was clear everyone was on a holiday high, the sun was shining and I couldn’t wait for the big day.
“The entire wedding day was perfect and so much more than I could ever have imagined. Rose Marie did a great job and Quike created a fun atmosphere with the music. David had such a relaxed friendly manner when taking all of his photographs and put Peter and I at ease, making us laugh in the intimate photos of the two of us that can so easily be a little cringe-worthy.
After getting home the wedding blues set in and all that kept me going were the photos. I recently received them and they are so much more than I was expecting. They captured every moment and I will treasure them forever. I have already purchased several photo frames so they can go everywhere in the new house.”
